Making your garden bright and colourful is always a great idea. It gives you somewhere you can relax or entertain in, and if you’re looking to sell your house, a bright garden could add value to it and help it sell faster. We’ve put together a list of the 5 best ways you can brighten up your garden all year round without breaking the bank, so read on to find ways that you can light up your garden!
1. Add More Colourful Flowers
We thought we’d start with the most obvious one – in fact, you probably already knew that you can brighten up your garden by planting some colourful flowers. However, it’s not always as simple as just picking the brightest flowers you can find. Find plants that fit with your garden’s colour palette – if you have a lot of earthy colours in your garden, simply planting loads of bright orange flowers could make them look a bit dull by comparison. Also, consider that we do live in Britain and the weather isn’t always bright and sunny! Pick flowers with colours that’ll look great even on a dull day – muted, subtle pinks and purples are always good for this.
2. Choose the Right Trees
Trees can add a lot of life to your garden, giving your garden a natural, down-to-earth colour palette. However, you should bear in mind what type of tree you want in your garden. Evergreen trees will give your garden a nice green backdrop all year round, but because they never lose their leaves, they can block a lot of the light from your garden which can make it look dull in winter. Use deciduous trees and shrubs instead – their leaves are usually a bit lighter and you’ll have much more light in your garden come wintertime. Plus, if you pick a tree that has bright blooms, you’re guaranteed a colourful display every spring, too!
3. Give Your Garden a Lick of Paint
Painting your fence and garden furniture is a great way to quickly brighten up your garden. You don’t have to paint everything in vivid colours, either; just giving it a fresh coat of paint will immediately make your garden look bright and clean. Use a paint sprayer like the MYLEK RAPID+ to quickly and evenly cover anything you want with an even coat of paint. Paint your garden fence and any furniture to match the colour palette of your garden – remember you want them to complement your garden’s bright colours, not overshadow them.
4. Green Your Grass
Making sure your grass looks lush and green is a great way to keep your garden looking brighter all year round. If you’ve got artificial grass, this is easy – just keep it clean every now and then with some artificial grass cleaner and you’ll have a natural-looking artificial lawn that’s the exact same shade of green all year round. If you’ve got real grass, use some iron sulphate as part of a regular feeding and watering schedule. This will keep your grass lush, green, and soft all year round, and will help it fight off drought in summer and frost in the winter. Maintaining your lawn in this way will really help the rest of your garden look brighter.
5. Use Water
Pick up some cheap water features that you can put in your garden, or if you want to go all out, consider digging a small pond or a space for a rockery water feature. Water is reflective, so on a bright day, the sunlight will glint in the trickling water, brightening up your garden no end and giving you a peaceful space that you can relax in. Even if you just dig a small pond or a birdbath that doesn’t work as a fountain, the pool of water you create will still do a great job of reflecting sunlight around your garden.
