Electric blankets are a cost-effective way to keep warm for less through the winter, but just because they’re practical and affordable doesn’t mean they can’t be luxuriously comfortable! If you want to sink into a cosy, plush bed on a night, a fleecy electric underblanket is a great way to do just that. If you’re after a really luxurious night’s sleep, you might be thinking about combining your fitted electric blanket with a memory foam mattress – but it’s not quite that simple! Not all kinds of electric blankets are suitable for memory foam so, if you’ve got a memory foam mattress, you’ll want to read on.
Is it Safe to Use an Electric Blanket with a Memory Foam Mattress?
Yes! The issue with electric blankets and memory foam mattresses isn’t one of safety. Using an electric blanket with a memory foam mattress is perfectly safe and won’t put you at risk. However, it’s still not always a good idea…
Can I Use an Electric Blanket with a Memory Foam Mattress?
You CAN use:
You SHOULDN’T use:
An electric underblanket, mattress cover, or any electric blanket that goes under your body. This is because the thickness of your electric blanket – along with the wires inside – will interfere with the shaping of your memory foam. This means your mattress won’t mould to fit your body properly, so you won’t feel any benefit from it. As memory foam tends to be expensive, you’ll want to get the most out of it, so consider a different electric blanket.
What If I Use an Electric Blanket Under My Duvet?
This can vary depending on your electric blanket and on your memory foam. If you pick up an electric overblanket, always read the instructions carefully to check whether you can actually use it under your duvet in the first place. Then double check whether your memory foam mattress is affected by heat (some are, some aren’t). If you’re good on both counts, you may be able to use your electric blanket over your body but under your duvet.
Can I Use an Electric Blanket with a Memory Foam Mattress Topper?
As with regular memory foam mattresses, you should first check your mattress topper’s manual to ensure that it can be used with an electric blanket. If it’s fine, you can use your electric blanket on top of your mattress topper just fine. As with a mattress, though, if you use a fitted electric blanket on top of your memory foam mattress cover, you might not feel the full benefit as the foam won’t shape to fit your body.
